Spring Break
Each year college students come to Glenwood to serve in Greensboro for their spring break. They live on cots in Glenwood United Methodist Church and serve all over the city, with some jobs working with people and other jobs simply doing manual labor that some service organizations just can’t get to. The GUPY spring break really seeks to incorporate the Biblical foundations of why we are serving, which enables the students to continue growing in faith and practice after they have gone home. The price is usually less than $100 per student, which includes food (since students cook their own meals).
Students from UNC-CH, NC State, Roanoke College, the College of Charleston, Radford, Virginia Tech, Lenoir-Rhyne College, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Greensboro, Davidson College, UNC-Asheville, and Mary Washington College have come to GUPY spring break over the past 4 years. If your school would be interested in coming to GUPY for spring break 2010, please email Marshall at marshall_benbow@ivstaff.org.
Our partner agencies include Housing Greensboro (home rehabilitation and repair for the poor), Greensboro Urban Ministry, Welfare Reform Liason Project, the Salvation Army, and Grace Community Church. Students will also take turns eating at one of the free meals available each night in the community, not as volunteers but as guests.
